Hearing aids, like all other pieces of technology are in danger of running into problems. There are a few different things that can go wrong, one of which being that the wires or cords get damaged somehow. If this happens, then they need to be repaired or replaced, but how do you know what you should do? The good news is that we’ve got some answers for you right here.

Identify the Issue

The first thing that you should do is figure out what the problem is. Be aware that you might not always be able to see a damaged wire or cord at first as most of these are on the inside. However, there will be plenty of time to rule out other more obvious and visible problems, leaving you with only a few options after that.

If you have had your hearing aids for a long time, then you may have come across an issue that you have experienced previously, making it an easier process. If this is the first time you are experiencing this problem, take extra care when trying to locate the problem.

Look it Up Online

The next thing that you can do is look it up online. If you’re unsure what is going on with your hearing aid, then you can type the problems into Google and see what comes up. This is not always going to provide you with the results that you are looking for, though.

Sometimes you will see videos pop up of how to fix a broken wire or cord. Regardless if your technological expertise, it is strongly advised that you seek the help of an audiologist for any kind of repair that is more than superficial, particularly one involving internal components.

Get Them Professionally Repaired

The final thing on the list is what we recommend when something goes wrong: hand them over to a professional. Get an appointment with your audiologist as soon as you can, and explain to them what has been happening. Most audiologists can handle minor and typical hearing aid repairs, with anything more extensive requiring the manufacturer’s proficiency.

It’s always better to have someone repair them who knows what they are doing, rather than thinking that you know how to fix a hearing aid because you watched a tutorial on YouTube. Typically, a repair appointment with your audiologist won’t take an extended period of time and you can often walk away with your devices in the same day. It can be tempting to try and do this yourself, but if you do not have the necessary experience, you could end up making the problem worse. Speak to your audiologist asap and ensure that you get the right help, rather than risking further damage to the device.
